Window Cleaning Prices
Window cleaning prices are determined by factors including the number of windows, their size, accessibility, frequency of service, and whether the work is residential or commercial.
If you are a homeowner or business owner in Ottawa considering professional window cleaning, understanding what drives pricing helps you make an informed decision and avoid surprises. GlassWing Window Cleaning serves Ottawa and surrounding areas with transparent pricing based on your property's specific needs. The five factors below explain how this service is typically priced and what you should expect when requesting a quote.
1. Residential and Commercial Properties Have Different Price Structures
Residential window cleaning in Ottawa usually charges by the number of windows or by square footage, with rates scaled for single-family homes, townhouses, and small apartment buildings. Commercial window cleaning operates on a different model because properties are larger, access may require special equipment or scheduling around business hours, and frequency is often contractual.
GlassWing Window Cleaning handles both residential and commercial work. A homeowner in Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood paying for quarterly service on 20 windows will see a different pricing structure than a retail business downtown requiring monthly cleaning of storefront glass. Commercial properties typically negotiate ongoing service agreements, which can offer better unit pricing than one-time jobs.
2. Window Count and Size Are the Primary Price Drivers
The single largest factor affecting what you pay is how many windows need cleaning and their dimensions. A bungalow in Nepean with 15 standard-sized windows costs less than a two-storey home in Ottawa with 30 windows plus skylights.
This is straightforward economics: more glass means more time, more water, and more cleaner. A professional cleaner estimates the job by counting windows and noting which are accessible and which require ladders, scaffolding, or interior access. When GlassWing Window Cleaning provides an estimate, the crew accounts for window type (single-hung, double-hung, casement, fixed), frame condition, and whether exterior sills and frames need attention. Larger panes in commercial storefronts cost more per job than smaller residential panes, but the per-pane cost may be lower due to efficiency.
3. Frequency and Accessibility Affect Long-Term Cost
Properties that book regular cleaning service-quarterly, semi-annual, or annual-typically receive lower pricing per visit than one-time jobs. Scheduled customers allow cleaners to plan routes efficiently and build predictable revenue, which they pass back as a discount.
Accessibility also matters significantly. A ground-floor bungalow in a quiet Ottawa suburb costs less to service than a three-storey Victorian on a busy street where ladder placement is difficult. If windows are behind dense landscaping, located above rooflines, or in tight alleys, the crew needs more time and may use specialized equipment. Interior access-whether you can unlock windows from inside or must position ladders outside-changes the logistics and therefore the cost. GlassWing Window Cleaning factors these real-world conditions into every quote rather than applying a flat rate that ignores your property's layout.
4. Additional Services Impact Overall Pricing
Many Ottawa homeowners book window cleaning alongside gutter cleaning, pressure washing of siding or decks, or exterior maintenance. Bundling services usually costs less than booking each separately because the crew is already on-site with equipment and supplies.
The comparison below shows how service combinations affect typical pricing logic:
| Service | Typical Scope | Price Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Window Cleaning Only | Interior and exterior glass, frames wiped | Base cost |
| Windows + Gutters | Glass plus gutter debris removal | +20-35% (same visit) |
| Windows + Pressure Washing | Glass plus deck or siding cleaning | +30-50% (variable by deck size) |
| Full Exterior Package | Windows, gutters, siding, deck | +40-60% (best value per service) |
Real estate agents preparing properties in Ottawa for open houses often use this bundling strategy: a quick window cleaning alone may seem inexpensive, but adding gutter clearing and exterior pressure washing to show the property in its best condition costs less when booked together than separately. GlassWing Window Cleaning offers this combined approach for both homeowners maintaining their property and agents staging homes for sale.
5. Seasonal Timing and Market Demand Influence Rates
Professional window cleaners in Ottawa experience predictable seasonal demand. Spring and early fall see the highest request volume because homeowners prepare for seasons or address winter buildup. Winter service is available but often costs more because weather conditions slow work and limit available days.
If you have flexibility in scheduling, requesting service during slower periods (mid-summer or early winter) may result in better pricing or faster availability. Conversely, if you need windows cleaned urgently-for an open house viewing, a special event, or before winter-you should expect standard or premium rates. Emergency or rush requests may carry surcharges. GlassWing Window Cleaning books on your timeline and provides honest pricing based on when you need the work done, whether that is routine maintenance or time-sensitive preparation.
Understanding these five factors puts you in a strong position to evaluate quotes and choose a service that fits your budget and needs. The best approach is to contact a local professional who can assess your specific property, answer questions about your situation, and provide a clear, itemized estimate. If you are in Ottawa or the surrounding areas and ready to discuss your window cleaning needs, reach out to GlassWing Window Cleaning for a consultation. Their team will listen to your priorities, explain the work involved, and help you understand the value of professional service.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does window cleaning cost in Ottawa?
Pricing in Ottawa typically ranges based on window count and property type, with residential homes starting lower than commercial properties. Most quotes reflect the number of windows, their size, accessibility, and any additional services like gutter cleaning. Contact a local provider for an estimate tailored to your home or business.
Do professional window cleaners charge by the window or by the hour?
Most charge by the window or by the total job scope rather than by the hour. This gives you a fixed price upfront. Some commercial contracts are priced by frequency and service level. Always ask for an itemized quote so you know exactly what is included.
Is it cheaper to bundle window cleaning with other exterior services?
Yes. Booking windows, gutters, and pressure washing together typically costs less per service than scheduling each separately because the crew is already on-site with equipment. Bundling can save 20-35% compared to individual bookings.
Why is commercial window cleaning more expensive than residential?
Commercial properties are larger, often require scheduling around business hours, may need specialized equipment for height or access, and involve ongoing contracts. The per-window cost is higher due to scale and complexity, though monthly rates are often negotiated lower than one-time jobs.
Does booking regular quarterly service cost less than one-time cleaning?
Yes. Customers who schedule regular cleaning-quarterly, semi-annual, or annual-typically receive discounted rates per visit. Recurring work allows cleaners to plan efficiently and build predictable revenue, which they pass back as savings to loyal customers.

SERVICES
ECO-FRIENDLY
We’re doing everything we can to be positive contributors to our beautiful city and the environment.
Biodegradable Cleaners
We use an orange-peel based pressure wash cleaning fluid that we use to clean your siding or walls with first before breaking out the pressure washer. The orange peel cleaner is biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly (and does an amazing job breaking down dirt).
Low Water Usage
We have adopted the process of cleaning exterior walls with our orange-peel soap and a mop before power washing. This creates a much cleaner surface than pressure washing alone, it allows us to not have to use the full power of a pressure washer (which can damage your siding), and we use much less water, which is great for the environment and the city’s water usage. All our soaps and cleaning materials we use for windows are biodegradable and include zero phosphates.
Soy Based Inks
All of our printed materials, business cards, brochures, receipts, etc are printed on recycled papers using soy based inks (no oil based inks).
Sensible Vehicle
We need a truck to transport our equipment from job to job, but that doesn’t mean we need to drive a huge gas-guzzling monster truck. Our vehicles are compact pick-ups. They’re great on gas.
