Pressure Washing

Pressure washing is the use of a high-powered stream of water to clean dirt, mold, algae, and debris from exterior surfaces. GlassWing Window Cleaning serves Ottawa and the surrounding region with professional pressure washing that protects your home's exterior while respecting your property and the environment.

1. Pressure Washing Removes What Regular Cleaning Cannot

A pressure washer forces water at speeds between 1,500 and 4,000 pounds per square inch (PSI)-think of it as a fire hose with real stopping power. This force dislodges buildup that a garden hose or soft brush simply cannot reach. Mold, mildew, bird droppings, road salt residue, and years of weathered grime come away in a single pass.

Your Ottawa home sits exposed to the elements year-round. Spring and summer moisture encourage mold growth on north-facing siding. Winter road salt spray settles on decks and driveways. A single cleaning with this service removes all of it, revealing the original surface underneath. GlassWing uses this technique on residential decks, exterior siding, driveways, and patios throughout Ottawa.

2. Water Pressure Must Match the Surface You Are Cleaning

Not every exterior surface can handle the same PSI. Concrete and cedar decks have very different tolerances. Vinyl siding requires gentler pressure than brick, because high PSI can force water behind the panels or damage the finish. Using the wrong pressure is how homeowners accidentally create damage-splintered wood, gouged concrete, or water intrusion behind siding.

Professional operators understand these limits. A deck in Ottawa might be cleaned at 1,500 to 2,000 PSI with a wide-angle nozzle, while a stained concrete driveway can tolerate 3,000 PSI with a narrower spray. GlassWing adjusts equipment and technique based on the specific material and condition of your property, ensuring thorough cleaning without harm.

3. Chemical Cleaners Work Alongside Water Pressure

Water alone handles loose debris effectively. For stubborn mold, algae, and staining, a biodegradable cleaning solution breaks the bond between the contaminant and the surface. The chemical does the work; pressure rinses it away. This combination is far more effective than pressure alone and uses less water overall.

In Ottawa's climate, where moisture persists and mold thrives, this two-step approach makes a real difference. GlassWing uses eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaners that protect your landscaping, pets, and local waterways while delivering results. The solution is applied, allowed to work for several minutes, then rinsed thoroughly with water.

4. Timing and Maintenance Extend the Life of Your Exterior

Most Ottawa homeowners benefit from cleaning their deck or siding once every 1 to 2 years, depending on sun exposure, tree coverage, and humidity in their neighbourhood. South-facing surfaces accumulate algae faster than shaded areas. Decks near mature trees see more debris and moisture.

Regular maintenance prevents deep staining and wood deterioration. When mold and algae are removed promptly, they do not have years to etch into the surface or work their way into wood grain. This service protects your investment. Many homeowners in Ottawa also schedule cleaning before selling their home or preparing for an open house, since a clean exterior creates an immediate positive impression.

5. Professional Service Saves Time and Delivers Safer Results

A pressure washer looks simple but requires training. Homeowners attempting this work often make these mistakes: holding the nozzle too close, allowing water to enter spaces it should not, applying uneven pressure, or using settings that damage the surface. Equipment safety is real-pressure washers cause significant injuries every year.

Hiring a professional means the work is done efficiently, correctly, and safely. GlassWing brings equipment, expertise, and insurance to every job in Ottawa. Jennifer Haynes and the team handle all the physical work while you focus on your life. A typical deck or driveway cleaning takes a few hours rather than a frustrating weekend project.

If your Ottawa home's exterior needs refreshing-whether it is a deck showing green mold, siding dulled by dust and weather, or a driveway stained by oil and algae-GlassWing Window Cleaning is ready to help. Reach out to discuss your property and learn how this service fits your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can pressure washing damage vinyl siding?

Yes, if the pressure is too high or the nozzle is held too close. Vinyl siding should be cleaned at 1,200 to 1,500 PSI with a wide fan pattern to avoid pushing water behind the panels or cracking the material. Professional operators know these limits and adjust accordingly.

How often should I have my deck pressure washed in Ottawa?

Most Ottawa decks benefit from cleaning every 1 to 2 years, depending on sun exposure and tree coverage. Shaded, damp areas accumulate mold faster and may need more frequent cleaning. Regular maintenance prevents deep staining and wood damage.

Is pressure washing safe for the environment?

Professional pressure washing with biodegradable cleaners is environmentally responsible. GlassWing uses eco-friendly solutions that break down naturally and do not harm soil, plants, or waterways, while water-conservation techniques minimize waste.

How much does pressure washing cost in Ottawa?

Cost depends on the surface area, material type, level of soiling, and accessibility. Driveways, decks, and siding are priced differently based on square footage and condition. Contact GlassWing for a personalized estimate for your specific project.

SERVICES

ECO-FRIENDLY

We’re doing everything we can to be positive contributors to our beautiful city and the environment.

Biodegradable Cleaners

We use an orange-peel based pressure wash cleaning fluid that we use to clean your siding or walls with first before breaking out the pressure washer. The orange peel cleaner is biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly (and does an amazing job breaking down dirt).

Low Water Usage

We have adopted the process of cleaning exterior walls with our orange-peel soap and a mop before power washing. This creates a much cleaner surface than pressure washing alone, it allows us to not have to use the full power of a pressure washer (which can damage your siding), and we use much less water, which is great for the environment and the city’s water usage. All our soaps and cleaning materials we use for windows are biodegradable and include zero phosphates.

Soy Based Inks

All of our printed materials, business cards, brochures, receipts, etc are printed on recycled papers using soy based inks (no oil based inks).

Sensible Vehicle

We need a truck to transport our equipment from job to job, but that doesn’t mean we need to drive a huge gas-guzzling monster truck. Our vehicles are compact pick-ups. They’re great on gas.

Wind Powered Website

This website is hosted by the North American internet hosting company that has won more Green Energy Awards than any other hosting company in the last decade. They own a wind farm in California, and power their entire business, and this website, on wind power.
