Pressure Cleaning Services
Pressure cleaning services use high-pressure water spray to remove dirt, algae, mold, and buildup from exterior surfaces. GlassWing Window Cleaning provides this work for Ottawa homeowners and businesses, treating decks, exterior siding, driveways, and other residential and commercial properties across the region.
This guide walks you through how the process works, what to expect when you hire a professional, and why this service matters for property maintenance in Ottawa's climate. By the end, you'll understand the steps involved and whether this service makes sense for your home or business.
Assess Your Property and Identify Surfaces That Need Cleaning
Before any work begins, a thorough evaluation of your property determines which surfaces are candidates for pressure cleaning. Walk around your Ottawa home or commercial building and note areas showing visible dirt, green or black streaking (algae and mold), accumulated pollen, or weathered paint. Decks, patios, driveways, siding, fencing, and gutters are common targets. GlassWing Window Cleaning starts every project with this assessment to understand the scope and condition of your property.
Different surfaces require different pressure levels. Soft materials like cedar siding need lower pressure than concrete driveways. Identify whether your siding is wood, vinyl, stucco, or composite-this determines the approach. Similarly, note any delicate plants, outdoor furniture, or fixtures near the areas to be cleaned. This planning step prevents damage and ensures the cleaning method matches your property's needs.
Choose the Right Pressure Cleaning Services Method and Equipment
Professional pressure cleaning services use equipment rated between 1,500 and 4,000 PSI (pounds per square inch), depending on the surface and soil level. Lower pressure (1,500-2,500 PSI) suits wood decks and vinyl siding. Higher pressure (3,000-4,000 PSI) handles concrete, driveways, and heavily soiled commercial surfaces. GlassWing Window Cleaning selects the appropriate pressure and nozzle angle for each job to clean effectively without etching, splintering, or damaging your property.
Hot water pressure cleaning adds extra cleaning power for oily residue or stubborn mold, while cold water works well for general dirt and algae. Many professional services also use biodegradable cleaning solutions to break down organic growth before the pressure wash itself, reducing the pressure needed and protecting your landscape. In Ottawa, where moisture and seasonal weather create ideal conditions for mold and algae growth, this two-step approach delivers better results and longer-lasting cleanliness than pressure alone.
Schedule, Prepare, and Complete the Pressure Cleaning
Once you've hired a professional service, the contractor schedules the work at a time convenient for you. Before the crew arrives, move outdoor furniture, potted plants, and other portable items away from the work area. Close windows and doors to prevent spray from entering your home. If you have delicate plants against your siding, mention this during your initial conversation so the team takes extra care. GlassWing Window Cleaning coordinates these details with you in advance to ensure a smooth process.
On the day of service, the cleaning crew sets up equipment, tests water pressure on a small inconspicuous area first, and works systematically across your property. The process typically takes several hours, depending on square footage and soil level. Once cleaning is complete, allow surfaces to dry fully before walking on them or returning furniture to the area. You'll notice an immediate difference in your home's or business's appearance-surfaces look refreshed, brighter, and better maintained. For Ottawa properties, this is especially visible on north-facing siding where moisture and shade encourage darker staining.
If you're ready to restore your property's exterior, contact GlassWing Window Cleaning to discuss your pressure cleaning needs. The team serves Ottawa and surrounding areas with the same attention to detail and respect for your property that defines all their work.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should pressure cleaning be done in Ottawa?
Most Ottawa properties benefit from pressure cleaning every 1-2 years, depending on exposure to shade, moisture, and weather. North-facing siding and decks in shaded areas accumulate algae and mold faster and may need cleaning annually. High-traffic driveways or decks used frequently may need cleaning every year to eighteen months. GlassWing Window Cleaning can assess your property and recommend a schedule based on your specific conditions.
Will pressure cleaning damage my vinyl siding or wood deck?
No, if the correct pressure and technique are used. Wood decks require lower pressure (1,500-2,500 PSI) to avoid splintering, while vinyl siding needs even gentler treatment. Concrete and asphalt tolerate higher pressure. Professional contractors like GlassWing Window Cleaning test pressure on a hidden area first and adjust technique to protect your surfaces while delivering a thorough clean.
How much does pressure cleaning cost in Ottawa?
Cost depends on the size of the area, soil level, surface type, and whether hot water or specialized cleaning solutions are needed. Residential decks and siding projects typically range differently than large commercial buildings. Contact GlassWing Window Cleaning for a quote tailored to your property and specific cleaning needs.
Is pressure cleaning environmentally safe?
It can be, if done responsibly. GlassWing Window Cleaning uses biodegradable cleaning solutions and water-conservation techniques to minimize environmental impact. Runoff should be managed to avoid sending dirt and chemicals into storm drains or onto neighboring properties. Professional services handle this properly, whereas DIY pressure washing can create uncontrolled runoff and waste water.

SERVICES
ECO-FRIENDLY
We’re doing everything we can to be positive contributors to our beautiful city and the environment.
Biodegradable Cleaners
We use an orange-peel based pressure wash cleaning fluid that we use to clean your siding or walls with first before breaking out the pressure washer. The orange peel cleaner is biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly (and does an amazing job breaking down dirt).
Low Water Usage
We have adopted the process of cleaning exterior walls with our orange-peel soap and a mop before power washing. This creates a much cleaner surface than pressure washing alone, it allows us to not have to use the full power of a pressure washer (which can damage your siding), and we use much less water, which is great for the environment and the city’s water usage. All our soaps and cleaning materials we use for windows are biodegradable and include zero phosphates.
Soy Based Inks
All of our printed materials, business cards, brochures, receipts, etc are printed on recycled papers using soy based inks (no oil based inks).
Sensible Vehicle
We need a truck to transport our equipment from job to job, but that doesn’t mean we need to drive a huge gas-guzzling monster truck. Our vehicles are compact pick-ups. They’re great on gas.
