Gutter Cleaning Service Cost
Gutter cleaning service cost varies based on home size, roof pitch, debris load, and accessibility-not a single fixed price.
If you own a home or manage a property in Ottawa, you know that gutters are critical to protecting your foundation, basement, and landscaping from water damage. But when it comes time to have them professionally cleaned, the question of cost often comes first. GlassWing window cleaning serves residential and commercial properties throughout Ottawa and the surrounding areas, and we understand that property owners need clarity on what they'll invest in gutter maintenance. This guide walks you through the genuine factors that determine what you'll pay for professional gutter cleaning.
1. Home Size and Gutter Linear Footage Drive the Primary Cost Variable
The single largest cost driver in gutter cleaning is the total linear footage of gutters on your property. A modest bungalow in Nepean might have 120 to 150 linear feet of guttering, while a two-story colonial in Ottawa's west end could exceed 300 linear feet. Because gutter systems run continuously along roof edges-and cleaning requires accessing, inspecting, and clearing every section-more gutter means more labor and time on site.
GlassWing pricing reflects this direct relationship: you're paying for the physical work of reaching, clearing, and disposing of debris from every foot of your system. A single-story ranch requires less ladder repositioning and less total material removal than a multi-level home with complex roof lines.
2. Roof Pitch and Property Accessibility Significantly Affect Labor Requirements
Not all gutters are equally accessible. A modest-pitch roof with stable ground access costs less to service than a steep-pitch roof requiring specialized ladder angles or extended reach. Ottawa properties also vary: some sit on relatively flat terrain, while others are built on slopes or have mature trees creating uneven ground or obstructed access.
If your property requires additional safety measures-a higher-angle ladder setup, spotter assistance, or special stabilization equipment-the time and technical care needed increases proportionally. GlassWing assesses each Ottawa property individually because a steep Victorian home's gutters demand different labor methodology than a bungalow with standard 4:12 pitch. This precision in evaluation ensures accurate quotes and safer execution.
3. Debris Volume and Seasonal Buildup Create Real Cost Variation
A gutter system clogged with heavy, wet leaves demands more physical labor than one with light, dry debris. In Ottawa, autumn brings significant leaf accumulation-particularly for homes surrounded by mature oak, maple, and ash trees common in neighborhoods like the Glebe, Sandy Hill, and Barrhaven. Some properties require debris removal from downspouts that have become completely blocked; others need sediment flushed from the bottom of K-style guttering.
The volume of waste material directly affects disposal cost and job duration. A property with minor debris might take a crew two hours; heavy accumulation on a larger home could require three to four hours. GlassWing factors actual site conditions into every estimate, not assumptions. If your gutters haven't been cleaned in multiple seasons, the debris load will be heavier, and the service will reflect that reality.
4. Material Type and System Condition Influence Cleaning Methodology and Cost
Ottawa homes feature different gutter materials-aluminum is most common in residential properties, but copper, steel, and vinyl guttering exist across the city. Each material responds differently to cleaning pressure and chemical cleaners. Aluminum gutters tolerate standard high-pressure rinsing; copper systems require gentler handling to avoid surface damage and preserve patina; vinyl demands careful technique to avoid stress on joints and seams.
A gutter system with loose fasteners, separation at joints, or visible corrosion requires more attentive, slower work than a well-maintained system. GlassWing uses biodegradable, water-conservation cleaning methods that protect both your gutters and Ottawa's environment-but this approach requires proper technique matched to material type. Older systems or those showing wear may cost more to service safely because the work cannot be rushed.
5. Seasonal Timing and Service Bundling Options Affect Overall Investment
In Ottawa, fall is peak gutter-cleaning season-demand is high, and scheduling may have longer lead times. Spring cleaning, less popular but equally valuable for removing winter debris, sometimes offers scheduling flexibility. Because most homeowners require gutter service one to two times annually, timing your request strategically can affect availability and response time.
Many property owners bundle gutter cleaning with other exterior maintenance. If you're already having pressure washing done on your deck or siding, or scheduling window cleaning, adding gutter service to the same visit improves efficiency and often reduces per-service costs through streamlined scheduling and equipment positioning. GlassWing provides window cleaning, pressure washing for decks and siding, and gutter maintenance-services that coordinate naturally on a single job, making your overall exterior maintenance investment more cost-effective than spreading work across multiple contractors throughout the year.
| Factor | Lower Cost Impact | Higher Cost Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Home Size | Single-story, 120-150 linear feet | Multi-story, 250+ linear feet |
| Roof Pitch | Standard 4:12, easy access | Steep 8:12+, complex geometry |
| Debris Load | Light, recent cleaning | Heavy accumulation, multiple seasons |
| Material Type | Aluminum, good condition | Copper or vinyl, signs of wear |
| Bundling | Gutter service only | Multiple services, same visit |
If you're a homeowner in Ottawa managing multiple exterior maintenance needs, or a real estate agent preparing a property for open house, understanding these cost factors helps you budget accurately and schedule efficiently. GlassWing Window Cleaning has served Ottawa residents and commercial properties for years, built on the principle that professional service should be clear, reliable, and respectful of your time and property. Frequently Asked Questions
How much does gutter cleaning cost in Ottawa?
Gutter cleaning cost in Ottawa typically ranges based on home size, roof pitch, and debris volume. A modest single-story home might cost less than a multi-story property with steep angles and heavy accumulation. GlassWing provides personalized estimates after assessing your specific property-linear footage, accessibility, and current condition all factor into the final quote.
What's included in professional gutter cleaning service?
Professional gutter cleaning includes debris removal from gutters and downspouts, flushing to clear sediment and minor blockages, visual inspection for damage or separation, and proper disposal of waste material. GlassWing uses biodegradable cleaners and water-conservation techniques, ensuring your gutters are clean without environmental impact.
Is it cheaper to clean gutters myself or hire a professional in Ottawa?
DIY gutter cleaning carries safety risks-falls from ladders cause serious injury-and requires proper equipment, technique matched to your material type, and safe waste disposal. Professional service like GlassWing's costs reflect trained labor, insurance, and the avoidance of personal injury risk. Most Ottawa homeowners find professional service worthwhile, especially when bundled with window cleaning or pressure washing.

SERVICES
ECO-FRIENDLY
We’re doing everything we can to be positive contributors to our beautiful city and the environment.
Biodegradable Cleaners
We use an orange-peel based pressure wash cleaning fluid that we use to clean your siding or walls with first before breaking out the pressure washer. The orange peel cleaner is biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly (and does an amazing job breaking down dirt).
Low Water Usage
We have adopted the process of cleaning exterior walls with our orange-peel soap and a mop before power washing. This creates a much cleaner surface than pressure washing alone, it allows us to not have to use the full power of a pressure washer (which can damage your siding), and we use much less water, which is great for the environment and the city’s water usage. All our soaps and cleaning materials we use for windows are biodegradable and include zero phosphates.
Soy Based Inks
All of our printed materials, business cards, brochures, receipts, etc are printed on recycled papers using soy based inks (no oil based inks).
Sensible Vehicle
We need a truck to transport our equipment from job to job, but that doesn’t mean we need to drive a huge gas-guzzling monster truck. Our vehicles are compact pick-ups. They’re great on gas.
