Cost To Get Gutters Cleaned

The cost to get gutters cleaned typically ranges from $150 to $400 for most residential homes in Ottawa, depending on factors like roof size, gutter condition, and accessibility. GlassWing Window Cleaning serves homeowners and commercial property managers throughout Ottawa and the surrounding region, helping them understand what they should expect to invest in this essential exterior maintenance.

1. Square Footage and Home Size Drive the Primary Cost

Gutter cleaning pricing is most directly tied to the linear feet of gutters your home has, which correlates closely with roof size. A smaller bungalow in Nepean might have 120 linear feet of gutters, while a two-storey home in Barrhaven could have 200 feet or more. Because larger homes require more time to clean thoroughly and safely, you should expect to pay more.

GlassWing Window Cleaning assesses your specific home layout during an initial conversation to give you an accurate picture of what the work involves. This is not a one-size-fits-all service, and honest contractors in Ottawa will take the time to measure and understand your property's unique configuration.

2. Accessibility and Ladder Safety Add Real Complexity

A straightforward single-storey ranch with easily accessible gutters costs less to clean than a three-storey Victorian with steep rooflines and tight spaces around the eaves. When technicians need specialized equipment, longer ladders, or safety harnesses, those requirements increase labor time and the overall expense.

Ottawa's varied housing stock-from historic Byward Market heritage homes to modern neighborhoods in Kanata-means accessibility varies dramatically. GlassWing factors in these real-world obstacles rather than quoting every job at the same rate. A home surrounded by mature trees, or one with gutters positioned over delicate landscaping, may require extra care and time that should be reflected in the estimate.

3. Gutter Condition and Debris Load Matter

A gutter that has been maintained annually with light debris takes 30 minutes to clean. A gutter clogged with leaves, pine needles, and decomposing organic matter can take two or three times longer to flush, clear, and properly flush again. Because Ottawa's climate brings heavy leaf fall in autumn and spring pollen, many homeowners find their gutters need more intensive work than those in drier regions.

If your gutters have not been cleaned in several years, expect the service to cost more. Severe clogs sometimes require complete removal and hand-cleaning of debris before the system can function properly again. GlassWing Window Cleaning uses eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaners and water-conservation techniques, which means the service is thorough without harsh chemicals that could damage your landscaping.

4. Seasonal Timing Affects Both Availability and Urgency

Fall is the busiest season for gutter cleaning in Ottawa because leaves have dropped and homeowners want gutters clear before winter. Spring is the second peak, as snow melts and pollen clogs gutters. Booking during these peak seasons may mean longer wait times or limited availability. Conversely, summer and early winter are quieter periods when contractors often have more flexible scheduling.

If your gutters are backing up and causing water damage to your fascia or foundation, the work becomes urgent rather than preventive, and you may have fewer scheduling options. Planning ahead-rather than waiting until a problem appears-gives you better control over cost and timing in Ottawa.

5. Additional Services Can Be Bundled for Efficiency

Many Ottawa homeowners combine gutter cleaning with other exterior maintenance tasks. Pressure washing your deck, cleaning windows, or cleaning exterior siding at the same time means the contractor is already on-site with equipment and can often offer a package rate that saves money overall. The table below shows how bundled services compare to booking them separately:

Service Standalone Cost Range When Bundled with Gutter Cleaning
Gutter Cleaning $150-$400 Base service
Pressure Washing (deck) $200-$500 Often 10-15% discount
Window Cleaning (residential) $150-$350 Often 10-15% discount
All Three Services $500-$1,250 separate $425-$1,000 bundled

GlassWing Window Cleaning brings specialized equipment and trained technicians who can handle multiple exterior tasks in a single visit, which makes sense for Barrhaven, Kanata, and other growing Ottawa neighborhoods where homeowners value efficiency.

6. Preventive Maintenance Plans Reduce Long-Term Costs

Many contractors offer annual or twice-yearly gutter cleaning packages at a lower per-visit rate than one-off cleanings. Because regular cleaning prevents expensive damage to fascia, soffits, gutters themselves, and your home's foundation, investing in preventive service often costs less over time than dealing with damage after neglect.

A homeowner in Ottawa who invests $200 twice per year ($400 annually) avoids the $1,500-$3,000 cost of replacing rotted fascia boards, regrading soil around the foundation, or repairing water-damaged basement walls. GlassWing Window Cleaning can discuss a maintenance schedule that fits your home's specific needs and Ottawa's climate patterns.

7. Choose a Contractor Who Is Transparent About What You Are Paying For

A professional contractor in Ottawa should walk you through why the estimate is what it is-discussing your home's square footage, gutter condition, accessibility challenges, and the specific work involved-rather than quoting a flat rate that might not reflect your actual needs.

GlassWing Window Cleaning operates as a locally-owned and operated business founded on respect and professionalism. Owner Jennifer Haynes prioritizes personalized attention and clear communication, so you understand exactly what the service includes and why it costs what it does. This approach builds trust and ensures there are no surprises on the day of service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Ottawa on average?

Average gutter cleaning costs in Ottawa range from $150 to $400 for residential homes, depending on roof size, gutter condition, and accessibility. Smaller homes or those with easily accessible gutters cost less, while larger homes or those with complex rooflines may cost more. GlassWing Window Cleaning provides personalized estimates based on your specific property rather than a flat rate.

Is it cheaper to clean gutters yourself or hire a professional in Kanata?

While DIY gutter cleaning saves the service cost, it carries safety risks-falls from ladders are serious-and time investment. Professional cleaners like GlassWing have proper safety equipment, insurance, and experience to do the job quickly and thoroughly. Many Kanata homeowners find that the safety, efficiency, and peace of mind justify the professional cost.

How often should gutters be cleaned, and what does that mean for annual costs?

Most Ottawa homes benefit from gutter cleaning twice per year-once in late fall after leaves drop and once in spring after snowmelt. At $150-$400 per cleaning, annual maintenance costs $300-$800. This prevents expensive damage to fascia, foundation, and landscaping, making preventive cleaning a smart long-term investment.

SERVICES

ECO-FRIENDLY

We’re doing everything we can to be positive contributors to our beautiful city and the environment.

Biodegradable Cleaners

We use an orange-peel based pressure wash cleaning fluid that we use to clean your siding or walls with first before breaking out the pressure washer. The orange peel cleaner is biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly (and does an amazing job breaking down dirt).

Low Water Usage

We have adopted the process of cleaning exterior walls with our orange-peel soap and a mop before power washing. This creates a much cleaner surface than pressure washing alone, it allows us to not have to use the full power of a pressure washer (which can damage your siding), and we use much less water, which is great for the environment and the city’s water usage. All our soaps and cleaning materials we use for windows are biodegradable and include zero phosphates.

Soy Based Inks

All of our printed materials, business cards, brochures, receipts, etc are printed on recycled papers using soy based inks (no oil based inks).

Sensible Vehicle

We need a truck to transport our equipment from job to job, but that doesn’t mean we need to drive a huge gas-guzzling monster truck. Our vehicles are compact pick-ups. They’re great on gas.

Wind Powered Website

This website is hosted by the North American internet hosting company that has won more Green Energy Awards than any other hosting company in the last decade. They own a wind farm in California, and power their entire business, and this website, on wind power.
